Young Canberra trainer Matthew Dale made the trip up the Hume Highway again worthwhile this afternoon as Meticulously took out race five (BM70) over 1580m at Canterbury.

Dale, who isn’t afraid to travel his horses from his Canberra base to collect a city win, has made a habit of it in recent times picking out the right races and floating horses between Sydney and Melbourne.

Coming off a close-up win in the Wagga Guineas during their recent carnival, Brenton Avdulla was given a confidence-boost from Dale that Meticulously would run well.

“Matty (Dale) was pretty confident, he just told me to ride him confidently today and he should run well, which he did”, said Avdulla.

“His run was really good in the Wagga Guineas. He did all the work, was left a sitting short and wasn’t beaten far”.

“He’s not blessed with the greatest turn of foot on him. We had a soft run and I got him rolling before the corner. Once he stuck his head in front at the 250m I knew he was always going to be hard to run down”.

A son of Not A Single Doubt Meticulously broke through for his first city-win making it four wins from 17 starts and firmed on track from $7.00 into $5.00 winning by ¾ of a length from Absolutelyanything with Saigon Tea who appeared a touch unlucky finishing third. The time for the 1580m was 1.34.36 with a last 600m in 36.47.
