Bring A Ring wins at Rosehill
Aug 19, 2015
~~The Matthew Dale-trained Bring A Ring caused an upset in the St Johns Park Bowling Club Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The daughter of Sebring made the three hour trip from Dale’s Canberra base to Sydney and defied an on-course betting drift from $13 to $17 to emerge a deserving winner of the race. It was her first success since prevailing over the same track and distance back in December 2013.
After Bring A Ring jumped cleanly from the barriers, jockey Kathy O’Hara pressed onto the lead and got her mount to settle after travelling a touch fiercely through the first 400 metres.
The mare kicked strongly in the straight but was under siege over the final 100 metres before holding on to score a narrow victory.
"It was a very tough effort,” O’Hara said.
"Matty is a very good judge of his horses, he told me yesterday that he thought she would be a really good chance in this and as it turns out she was.
"She had to do a bit of work, I knew I had to be quite aggressive on her out of the barriers to get her across and in doing so it probably fired her up slightly but she settled half way through the race
"She gave a good kick and was really tough over the last furlong.”
The hard luck story of the race was Chris Waller’s Holy Delusions ($4.20). After missing the start by a length, the mare was near enough to last on the turn before making significant headway back on the inside only to go down by a long neck.
Finishing another short neck away in third position was the $3.60 favourite Marple Miss, trained by Kris Lees.
Bring A Ring was Dale’s second Rosehill victory this month after Fell Swoop saluted in a benchmark 75 contest a fortnight ago.
