Itchyzariz Takes the Parkes Cup
May 16, 2016
THE story behind Monday’s Parkes Cup (1600m) winner Itchyzariz is a true racing tale.
In a total rarity, Itchyzariz’s owner, Andy Tanner, was on course to strap his charge before the six-year-old led all the way with Kayla Nisbet on board.
“I bred him, raced his mum, raced his sister — it’s been a very good family,” Tanner said. “But this (Itchyzariz) is the last one of out the mare.”
Even though the Parkes Cup was Itchyzariz's 11th start this preparation, the horse has never been in better form. Trainer Matthew Dale attributes this consistent form to the fact that the horse does very little between races with most work done on the treadmill and in the pool.
Dale is looking at stepping the gelding up to 2000m at his next start at Canberra's next meeting on 27 May.
